Wireless networks provide a communication’s infrastructure for voice, data and video. The Landon Technology Group has been installing and managing wireless networks for over ten years. The footprint of housing authorities is very similar. The footprint consists of one or more hi-rise or mid-rise towers; this includes a main office and several remote sites around the city. These facilities are usually within a radius of five miles. Most housing authorities struggle with the slow and unstable performance of cable/DSL or T1 connections. These connections often have 4 Mega Bits Per Second (MBPS) or less and require expensive monthly fees. The cable connections tend to deliver poor performance with notable down time and user frustration.

Decentralized versus centralized operations! Most housing authorities that operate with cable connections run inefficiently and limit themselves to centralized operations because management is afraid that remote user computers will run slow when accessing email, maintenance orders or property management software. However wireless networks open up a whole new world! A wireless air-bridge will bring up to 108 MBPS, supplying large amounts of bandwidth for data, internet access, voice and security video. Wireless networks are a large enabler. Executive directors that have their own wireless networks feel much more confident about deploying their staff to remote sites to better utilize housing authority staff and assets.

Cost savings! Once the air bridges are installed you no longer need to pay the monthly bill from your cable or T1 provider. The amount of expense is substantial. Calculate the total monthly cable or T1 expense, for each site, times twelve months a year given a five year study period. Also, factor in the cost savings from staff efficiencies; by eliminating system slowness at your remote site you make that person or department 5% to 10% more efficient. Those efficiency gains translate into a significant savings. If your housing authority is paying monthly phone bills at remote sites for Centrex lines; these lines can be eliminated with the installation of an air-bridge and VoIP phones at the remote sites.

Sustained connectivity! The wireless networks are very stable; unlike cell phones or wireless home networks. The wireless networks that we design and install are point to point or point to multi-point. The antenna delivers 22 Dbi and sends a concentrated beam from one antenna and access point at one site to an antenna and access point at a corresponding site. We ensure that the signal to noise ratio is strong enough to deliver sustained connectivity.
Wi-Fi, Too! The same wireless infrastructure used to bring broadband access for your administrative staff can be used to deliver broadband internet access to your residents.
The Landon Technology Group will be glad to meet with you to discuss how well a wireless network will fit for your housing authority and associated benefits. We also can conduct a study with the deliverables of a network technical diagram for all your sites, a detailed budget and estimated cost savings.
